2 1/2 pounds beef short ribs cut “LA-style”
1/4 yellow onion, coarsely chopped
1/4 Korean (Asian) pear, peeled and coarsely chopped
6 garlic cloves, peeled
1 tablespoon chopped ginger
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup cola
1/4 cup soju, sake, vodka
1 1/2 teaspoons roasted sesame seeds
2 scallions, thinly sliced
Ssam fixings: Red or green leaf lettuce leaves, perilla leaves, rice, sliced hot green chile peppers, and ssamjang

Marinade:
½ cup soy sauce
1 cup water
¼ cup sugar
2 tablespoons honey
¼ cup rice wine (or Mirin)
¼ cup (about 1/2 of a medium) Korean/Asian pear grated
¼ cup (about 1/2 of a medium) onion grated
2 tablespoons minced garlic
1 teaspoon minced ginger
2 tablespoons sesame oil
½ teaspoon black pepper
